What this calculator actually computes

Human Design reads a birth moment twice. Once at the second you were born — that side is called Personality, the part you recognise as "me". And once about eighty-eight days earlier, at the moment the Sun sat 88 degrees behind its birth position — the Design side, the body you were handed rather than the one you chose. Both passes place the Sun, Moon, nodes and planets into 64 gates borrowed from the I Ching, and the gates that light up decide everything else.

So the calculator runs a real ephemeris — the same Swiss Ephemeris that professional astrology software uses — for two moments, not one. Then it checks which of the 36 channels have both their gates activated. A completed channel defines the two centres it connects. Which centres end up defined determines your type, and the type determines your strategy. Nothing here is a personality quiz: change the birth minute and the answer changes, because the sky changed.

That is also why time and place are not optional. The Moon moves roughly half a degree an hour and the Ascendant moves a full degree every four minutes. Without a real place and a real clock time you would get a plausible chart belonging to someone else.

How to read what comes back

Type is the coarsest layer and the one everyone quotes. Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, Reflector — five ways energy is built, not five personality boxes. A Generator has a defined Sacral centre and a motor that only runs well when something outside it invites a response. A Projector has no defined Sacral and is built to see systems, not to grind through them. A Reflector has no defined centres at all and samples the room rather than broadcasting into it.

Strategy follows mechanically from type. It is one sentence about how decisions are supposed to begin for a body shaped like yours: wait for a response, wait for the invitation, inform before you move, wait out a lunar cycle. It is the least mystical part of the system and the part people find hardest to actually do.

Authority answers a different question: not how a decision starts, but where in your body the answer arrives. Emotional authority means no truth exists in the moment — you have to sleep on it, because your clarity has a wave. Sacral means the gut sound comes before the reasoning. Splenic means it comes once, quietly, and does not repeat.

Profile is two numbers, like 2/4 or 5/1. They come from the line of the Sun on the Personality side and the line of the Sun on the Design side, and they describe the shape of a life rather than a temperament — how you learn, and how you meet other people.

Definition counts how many separate islands of defined centres you carry. A single definition means everything is connected internally; a split means two groups that other people, or a specific gate, bridge for you. That single word explains more about how you feel around others than the type does.

Why we show two other systems next to it

Human Design borrows its skeleton from Western astrology and its 64 gates from the I Ching, so it is not an independent opinion about you — it is one reading of one sky. That is exactly why a second and third reading are useful. The same birth moment produces a natal chart, with every planet in a sign, and a BaZi chart, with four pillars of stem and branch. Where three unrelated systems point at the same thing, the signal is probably real. Where they disagree, the disagreement itself is informative.

Nobody else in search puts them side by side. That is the whole reason this site exists.

Questions people actually ask

What if I don't know my birth time?

Then the type, the Ascendant and roughly a third of the gates are unreliable, and we would rather tell you that than print a confident chart. Sun and the slow planets stay valid on the day. If your family remembers "morning" or "evening", use the middle of that window and treat the profile and authority as provisional.

Is this the same calculation as the paid portrait?

Yes — identical engine, identical numbers. What you pay for is not better math, it is the reading: how your gates, your natal chart and your BaZi pillars interact, written for your specific combination rather than for your type.

Why does my type differ from another site?

Almost always the birth time, the time zone, or the historical daylight-saving rule for your city. We resolve the place to real coordinates and the historical offset for that exact date, which is where cheaper calculators cut corners.

Do I need an account?

No. Nothing on this page is stored, and no email is asked for. An account only becomes relevant if you want the full portrait, which is generated once and kept for you.

Is my birth data kept?

Not against you. The finished result is cached for a month under a hash of the date, time and place, so an identical request returns instantly — there is no account and no profile attached to it. The city name alone goes to a geocoding service to become coordinates; your birth date never does. Details are in the privacy policy.
