Sun in Sagittarius

Sun in Sagittarius means you find yourself through meaning and moving forward: your personality is built around your beliefs and around where you are heading. In a birth chart the Sun is the core of your personality and your will. Sagittarius is a fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of growth and breadth. It closes autumn, and astrologers call the signs at the end of a season mutable, which means changeable. Your will looks towards the horizon here; it needs space and copes badly with tight limits.

Fire gives enthusiasm and directness, along with faith in a good outcome. Jupiter adds a pull towards knowledge and long journeys. A changeable sign keeps the fire from freezing in one spot: you move from experience to experience and turn a single case into a principle. The strength of this placement is the scale of your thinking, which lets you see the whole and keep your direction where others drown in detail. The price of such breadth is carelessness about small things and about limits. Your attention reaches for what is possible and misses what is right beside you, and promises run ahead of delivery.

The weak spot of the Sun in Sagittarius is the habit of replacing the search for truth with being right. Conviction hardens into dogma, and the pull towards new horizons turns into an escape from what needs finishing here, like planning a trip to avoid clearing the pile on your desk. Meaning is best tested by action. Before you buy a ticket or sign up for a new course, you might close one thing you have already started. Or in an argument, ask yourself what would change if the other person turned out to be right.
